In the last few years technology has invaded our lives, changing our habits, the way we work, study, have fun and communicate. Every day a new technological instrument is launched on the market, be that cameras, new pc or mobile models, more and more sophisticated televisions and so on. And if adults consider all this as something new, the new generations, the ones that were born and have been growing in this technological epoch, consider all these constant evolutions and the launch of new, advanced products as something very natural, and not only interesting.

But with all these technological devices a question must be asked: can technology really improve our life? Or was it better in the past, when we did not need to use many different instruments? What is certain is that a unique answer cannot be found, and it is not possible to generalise. On the one hand it is true that the many technological tools that we have at our disposal have deprived us of something (the pleasure of playing in a park instead of in front of a video game console, the happiness when you find a letter written by a faraway friend in the mailbox…) and have made our life a bit more complicated (learning to use many different types of mobiles, computers and so on is not always easy, especially if you are not that young); on the other hand it cannot be denied that new technologies have caused many improvements.

Are you wondering about the advantages that modern technology brings to us in today’s time? Here are some of the good things that come with technology and how they have changed the way we live our lives today.

  • Primarily, the main goal of technology is to provide us with ways on how to live our lives more comfortable and more convenient. This is why most of the technologies that we have today can be seen in our houses such as when we are cleaning our house. Instead of using the traditional tools in cleaning houses, we already have vacuum cleaners as well as electric dusters. This means that we no longer need to exert that much effort when performing a rather tiring task.
  • Communication is another field that has benefited most from the different technological advancements that had happened over the years. Before, the only means of communication between families that are miles apart is snail mail but today, we already have the gadgets and devices that let us send and receive messages from people all around the world in an instant. One great example would be is the internet.
  • Education has also evolved throughout the years, thanks to modern technology. Students are now able to study their lessons clearly and enjoy the process of learning both at the same time. With the use of computer, students can research about their lessons effortlessly giving them more time to study harder and enjoy other things such as interacting with other students.

The term geek has usually been used in an almost derogatory manner towards those who feel a natural inclination towards technically demanding areas of study like science or technology. These kids are shunned, or even bullied, during high school because of their uncanny passion for technology and supposed lack of social skills. However, no one can deny the fact that a geek usually ends up earning far more than the others and lives a fulfilling life because of his or her intellectual ability. If one looks at the most popular science fiction novels and movies, they have been created by people who are highly scientifically oriented. In fact, films like Star Wars and Star Trek have improved the overall image of a Geek without realizing it. However, what really has enhanced the stature of nerds is the internet revolution. Our lives have become dependent on the internet in a number of ways. And geeks have undoubtedly played a vital role in the evolution and complete transformation of our life style. From the very computer to the operating systems to the internet, if it weren’t for the geeks we won’t be calling ourselves the ‘internet generation’. Technology Is The Adept World Nerds Thrive In Like it or not, we live in a world that is ruled by geeks, a world where internet is rules and propels almost every aspect of our lives. Had there been no nerds, who would have given us this bountiful gift that has become such a vital aspect of our life. Nerds can visualize ideas and then put them to practice with great precision. They may not be the most popular but they definitely move up in life. The main reason behind this is their unmoving devotion to what they do; their passion for details and studying a subject deeply. A geek does not mind sitting for hours and think of coming up with a better idea that might transform technologies. Warren Buffet is a geek. Bill Gates is a geek. Mark Cuban is a nerd. Even men such as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon were high school nerds. So one can imagine how the best talent is dominated by the geeks. The more that this society becomes dependent on science and technology, the higher will be the need and reliance on geeks. They will be the ones that will design and engineer the roadmap of our future. Geeks because of their selfless devotion to knowledge, learning, and academia have always made sure that they enjoy higher positions in life due to their achievements. Today, more than ever, is the time to enjoy being a geek. In fact, several top ranking professionals are self-proclaimed nerds; their path breaking achievements have completely shifted the view that instead of being socially inept, these geniuses will blaze a trail of glory and become famous for their achievements. These science minded people are necessary for the future of humankind. They help us excel by playing their part in enhancing the potential of planet earth via science and technology.

Media technology, especially in the home entertainment segment, has grown by leaps and bounds, from vinyl records, video and audio cassettes, CDs and DVDs and now the latest entrant is Blu-ray media. Blu-ray is the new generation disk technology and it outstrips the old DVDs by leaps and bounds in terms of memory capacity, video quality and speed. Blu-ray media technology entered the markets a few years back and immediately grabbed everybody’s attention because of its ability to store videos in HD format and large memory capacity. It makes viewing movies at home an altogether new experience with superb video quality and sound. The market has exploded with Blu-ray and it is entering almost all aspects of the market. Computers and laptops are come preloaded with Blu-ray disc readers and writers, Blu-ray disc players and home theatre systems, gaming consoles that use Blu-ray discs, blank Blu-ray discs for storage and other purposes; in short Blu-ray is all set to become the next big thing in media technology. The Exact Science of Blu-ray Ever since the development of HD media, there had been no disc technology like the CD or DVD that could contain the vast sizes and codecs of High Definition videos. Shuji Nakamura, the inventor of Blu-ray, discovered that by using a laser of shorter wavelength to burn in the storage into the disc one could create higher capacity in the disc. So instead of using the red laser used by DVDs, they used blue laser on a disk, hence the name Blu-ray. The storage capacity of a Blu-ray disk is its strongest plus point. A normal DVD has a storage capacity of 4.5 GB and a dual layer DVD has 9 GB of storage. The HD-DVD, the erstwhile rival to the Blu-ray disk, had a capacity of 15GB and the dual layer HD-DVD had a capacity of 30GB. The Blu-ray disk trumps all these capacities as one normal Blu-ray disk has 25 GB of capacity and a dual layer Blu-ray disk has 50GB of capacity. This means that a Blu-ray disk can capture a full HD 1080p resolution image so it can play full HD videos. Its resolution of 1920 X 1080 is also greater than the 768 X 480 resolution of a standard DVD. The other plus point of the Blu-ray is its signal speed or bandwidth. The Blu-ray disk can produce signals of up to 36Mbps compared to 1.32Mbps for a normal DVD. Another great feature ingrained in the Blu-ray media players ensures that your old DVDs do not become redundant. These players upscale the video quality of the DVD when they play them by converting a DVD’s resolution to a higher level required for HDTV. This does not change the resolution but improves the picture quality. The positives of Blu-ray technology show us that it is a clear winner and will change home entertainment for the better. Blu-ray is the next best thing and is the technology for the next generation. It is only a matter of time before it penetrates the market and then before you know it, it will be in everybody’s household.

The implementation of medical information technology in surgeries and other medical facilities is no longer a distant future plan. Increasingly, over the next few years, we can expect to see the implementation of electronic health records and other medical information technology which aims to improve patient care and make the day to day running of medical facilities smoother.

Although doctors and their staff may feel apprehensive at the prospect of getting to grips with new medical information technology solutions, there are potential benefits in doing so. The software could improve patient care as electronic records would be faster to locate than paper ones, something which would be particularly important in the case of a medical emergency. Also, if a patient changes doctors, they could quickly be transferred to the new surgery. Doctors would also be able to share details about patient symptoms with their counterparts in other locations, which could help with the recognition of rare or difficult to diagnose symptoms.
