The future of motion-control gaming is here. Nintendo started it all off with the Wii, but it had it’s limitations, mainly being tied down to a controller. But, Microsoft answered with a motion control device of their own, and announced their new device, Kinect. Kinect takes motion control gaming to another level. Instead of needing special remotes, all you need to do is know how to move your body. Kinect is a camera (actually, a set of two cameras, but who’s counting) that when combined, can track your entire body as it moves.
The first camera is an infrared camera which can sense your body in 3D space, meaning it can judge the depth. It can also distinguish between various players, as well as between players and furniture. The second camera is a regular video camera, which can see your image in full color. These two images, when combined with the special software, can sense every single one of your body’s movements. That way, however you move will be tracked and translated into the video game. If you have to dodge a ball coming at you, just dodge, and Kinect will be able to recognize it.
